What is it all about? ready, set, go!

Getting out there and having a go is important. This event is open to everyone aged between 8-14, on the day of the event. Entry numbers are limited so be in quick. You enter on your own - which means you swim, bike and run (in that order.) Click here to download a training programme

Where is it and when?

It is at the Onerahi foreshore in Whangarei (near the airport) on Sunday 13 March. Registration will be at 9am and racing will start at 12noon in age group categories.

The number 1 rule is: Have Fun!

You will start and finish the race by yourself which means no one can push you to the finish on your bike or piggy back you on the run! Only competitors (you!) are allowed in the transition areas. These are the places where you hop on and off your bike and finish the race, (or on the race course itself!) You will be wearing your competition T-shirt (supplied at registration) so we can tell if you are a Triathlete or not.

You must follow the marshalls' instructions. They'll be the ones in the bright clothes directing you around the course with arrows and cones.

The race director has the last word, so what he says goes!

Special rules for

The Swim: All swimmers must wear the new swim cap provided. No running or walking is allowed although you can stop and have a rest if you need. The swim course is shallow enough for you to touch the bottom and you can wear a wetsuit if you want. There will be lifeguards watching you carefully, so just go for it and if something happens, the lifeguards will help you.

At the end of the swim you climb out of the water where you are told to, and run to your bike and put your competition T-shirt, helmet and shoes on to start the bike ride.

The Bike: All bikers must wear a fastened helmet, footwear and competition T-shirt. Your bike needs to be safety checked beforehand and given a sticker to say it is safe to race. If we say it is unsafe you will not be able to start. You must get your bike safety checked before race day at one of the identified cycle shops (see opposite.) On the course there will be lots of marshals (some of them on bikes as well) to help you if you need it.

At the finish of the bike you will slow down and get off carefully (the marshalls will help you if you need it), put your bike back where you got it from. (You can't collect your bike until the Triathlon is over and you must be wearing your competition T-shirt to collect your bike).

The Run: Wearing shoes is compulsory. You will keep to the right on the run course (don't worry the marshals will tell you what to do). At the finish you cross the finish line to collect your finisher's medal.
